Job Description
The Senior Manager, Business Development will drive and supervise activities on industrial collaboration project development, technical marketing, technology transfer, commercialization, and start-up establishment for the research outputs and intellectual properties (IP) of ACCESS in the field of design and design automation of scalable chips and systems supporting large-scale AI models and wider spectrum of semiconductor and AI technologies. S/he will be stationed at the Hong Kong Science Park, with occasional business travels when needed.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Executive Director of ACCESS, the key responsibilities of the position include but not limited to:
- Establish proactive working relationships with R&D teams and faculty’s research groups to develop the technology transfer strategy and roadmap, manage the technology portfolio, identify commercialization opportunities, and facilitate collaboration between internal and external stakeholders to maximize the impact of research outputs.
- Develop commercialization proposals for the Center’s commercial-grade testbeds based on market analysis, customer insights, technology/IP landscape, competitive analysis, etc., aligning with ACCESS’s technology roadmap and key research outcomes.
- Establish strategic collaborations with local and overseas industrial partners, the public sector, universities and research institutions, open-source communities, incubators, and accelerators to leverage resources and expertise for project advancement.
- Manage customer relationships and establish technology transfer agreements and research contracts with private companies and the public sector; coordinate project-specific customer engagements and work closely with internal teams to ensure successful project execution and alignment with customer expectations managed.
- Facilitating setting up start-up companies based on ACCESS technologies from the initial business plan and team forming through to the launch of the spin-off company.
- Lead the efforts in technical marketing, including the definition of ACCESS' technologies' position in the market, technical benefits and differentiators, marketing materials preparation and presentation, and facilitating promotional events that showcase project achievements.
- Drive and monitor internal workflow and coordinate ACCESS and HKUST relevant function units to ensure efficient operation and coordination of business development activities if necessary.
- Carry out ad hoc tasks as assigned.
Requirements
Applicants should have an advanced degree and technology management experience related to IC design, design automation, semiconductor, or AI technologies; preferably a Ph.D./DBA with at least 3-year relevant experience, or MPhil/MBA with at least 5- year relevant experience , or equivalent; solid industry experience in handling technology business development, technology commercialization, start-up experience would be advantageous. He/she must be legally permitted to work in Hong Kong. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills, a strategic mindset, and the ability to build and maintain strong partnerships. S/he should have a great sense of responsibility, the ability to multi-task and work independently, and proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese.
Terms of Appointment
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided.
