AI Chip Center for Emerging Smart Systems (ACCESS) participated in the Hong Kong International Innovation and Technology Exhibition (InnoEX) for the fourth consecutive year. Co-organized by the Innovation, Technology and Industry Bureau and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council with the theme "Innovate ‧ Automate ‧ Elevate," the event held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 13 to 16 Apr 2026 brought together global tech leaders and research institutions to showcase the latest advancements in innovation and technology.
ACCESS showcased at the exhibition its groundbreaking research achievements of a few projects that have won two Gold Medals and a Jury's Special Mention Gold Medal at the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions in 2025 and 2026, including:
- Efficient Protein Sequence Design on 3D AI Chip:
This 3D AI chip is developed for efficient protein sequence design, addressing the issues of high power consumption, high cost, and high carbon emissions associated with traditional GPUs. Through the ProteinMPNN model and algorithm-hardware co-optimization, compared to GPUs, it achieves a 7.5x performance improvement, 14.75x smaller footprint, and 235.29x lower power consumption. Using 3D stacking of ReRAM and logic chips, internal interconnect length is reduced by more than half, cost is lowered by 200x, and carbon emissions are cut by 25.62x, with overall energy efficiency improved by three orders of magnitude. This technology can be applied to drug discovery, industrial enzyme design, and sustainable materials—offering a fast and cost-effective solution for protein sequence design. - Digital Compute-In-Memory (DCIM) Enabled Portable Genome Analysis Prototype:
Leveraging advanced Digital Computing-in-Memory (DCIM) technology, ACCESS has developed a breakthrough portable genome analysis prototype. This high-performance, low-power device is particularly suited for remote or resource-limited environments, opening new possibilities for biomedical research and clinical diagnostics. - Ultra-high Energy Efficiency AI Accelerator for Portable Healthcare Devices:
Designed for patients with diabetes and hypertension, this portable screening device integrates an ultra-energy-efficient AI accelerator. It performs real-time detection and analysis without requiring internet connectivity, ensuring patient privacy while providing accessible healthcare solutions for underserved regions.
These innovative technologies fully demonstrated ACCESS’ leading technical strengths and research capabilities in the fields of artificial intelligence and integrated circuit design. We will continue our dedication to cutting-edge technology research, contributing to the evolution of Hong Kong as an international innovation and technology hub.
