We are pleased to announce that Prof. Fengbin Tu, an Assistant Professor at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and a faculty member of the AI Chip Center for Emerging Smart Systems (ACCESS), has been officially awarded the prestigious Excellent Young Scientist Scheme by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).
The NSFC "Excellent Young Scientist Scheme" is a national talent program supporting exceptional young scientists who demonstrate significant potential in their respective fields. This year's competition for the fund was very intense, as it was the first time that applications were open for researchers from the Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau. Being awarded this honor is a strong recognition of Prof. Tu's research on and contributions to AI chips.
Prof. Tu received his Ph.D. from the Institute of Microelectronics, Tsinghua University, in 2019, with his dissertation recognized by the Tsinghua Excellent Dissertation Award. His research interests include AI chip design and computing-in-memory. His AI chips, ReDCIM and Thinker, have received prestigious awards, including the 2017 ISLPED Design Contest Award and the 2023 Top-10 Research Advances in China Semiconductors. He was also honored with the 2024 WAIC Yunfan Award for his exceptional contributions to the field. Prof. Tu has published two books and over 60 academic papers in leading conferences and journals, such as ISSCC, JSSC, DAC, ISCA, and MICRO.
We extend our warmest congratulations to Prof. Tu for his impressive achievements and look forward to his continued contributions to the field of AI chip design and computing-in-memory!
