Professor Tim Kwang-Ting CHENG Honored with Prestigious ACM SIGDA Pioneering Achievement Award

Professor Tim Kwang-Ting CHENG, Center Director of AI Chip Center for Emerging Smart Systems (ACCESS) and Vice President (Research and Development) at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), has been awarded the distinguished “2025 ACM SIGDA Pioneering Achievement Award”. The accolade was presented at the ACM SIGDA Annual Member Meeting and Dinner, held in conjunction with the International Conference on Computer-Aided Design (ICCAD) on 29 October 2025, in Munich, Germany.

The ACM SIGDA Pioneering Achievement Award, a world-renowned recognition, was presented by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Special Interest Group on Design Automation (SIGDA). It recognizes individuals or groups for their exceptional contributions and pioneering efforts in the field of electronic design automation (EDA), especially in areas like electronic design and computer-aided design (CAD). Awardees are innovators who have significantly advanced the field, influencing the development of new methodologies, tools, or practices in design automation. The award underscores the value of creativity and innovation, celebrating those whose work has had a lasting impact.

Prof. CHENG is a world-leading academics and researcher with excellent experience in fostering cross-disciplinary research collaboration, an international authority in the field of VLSI testing and design verification, as well as an impactful contributor across a wide range of research areas including design and automation of electronic and photonic systems, computer vision, and medical image analysis. Prof. CHENG has published more than 500 technical papers, co-authored 5 books, held 20+ US patents, and transferred several of his inventions into successful commercial products. He is a Fellow of IEEE, Fellow of Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences, Fellow of the School of Engineering at the University of Tokyo, and his works are of high impact with due recognition from the field, including Pan Wen Yuan Foundation Award for Outstanding Research, China Computer Federation (CCF) Award for Overseas Outstanding Contribution, and 10+ best paper awards in major conferences and journals.
